Mary Eileen Jones (Mair), née Sivell, 1924-2001, was the daughter of Francis and Elizabeth Sivell of Glangwili. She attended Carmarthen Grammar School For Girls, 1936-1942, and then studied Welsh and English at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth, 1942-1945, where she became a pupil of Thomas Jones. In 1945, she was appointed as the Assistant Organiser for Children's Hour on the BBC, a position she surrendered on her marriage to Thomas Jones in 1947.
