Dr Arthur Troughton (1927-1982) joined the staff of the Welsh Plant Breeding Station in Aberystwyth in 1948, firstly in the Grassland Agronomy Department and later in the Department of Developmental Gebetics. He was a well-known figure in agricultural circles, and his contribution to agricultural research was recognised both nationally and internationally. His chosen speciality was the study of the root systems of herbage plants. He published numerous scientific papers and articles.
