Edward Hughes, J.P., M.B.E., of Wrexham Fechan, Wrexham worked as a book-keeper whilst maintaining a lifelong interest in the local history of his home area. He was elected a member of Wrexham Town Council in 1898, was mayor of the town from 1906 to 1908, and served as alderman of the borough of Wrexham from 1907 to 1935.
