Jacob Davies ('Alaw Cowyn', 1888-1973) came from Blaen-y-coed, Cynwyl Elfed, Carmarthenshire. He worked as a blacksmith at Felinfach Forge, Blaen-y-coed. He was a poet and composer, and author of Atgofion Bro Elfed (1966) and Hanes Pedair Ysgol (1975). He collected papers relating to the history of Congregational chapels in the Trelech area of Carmarthenshire, including the Gymanfa Ganu (hymn-singing festivals), and Pabell Blodau'r Grug (a branch of the Independent Order of Rechabites temperance movement) in Pen-y-bont, Trelech, Carmarthenshire.
