The Rev. Ivan Thomas Davies ([c. 1852]-1931) was born in Llanuwchllyn, Merionethshire. He attended Spring Hill College in Birmingham, returning to Llanuwchllyn to set up a business selling coal and lime. He assisted Kuno Meyer (1858-1919) with the glossary of his edition of Peredur ab Efrawc (Leipzig, 1887), and corresponded with other academics, and prominent individuals from the Llanuwchllyn area. He acquired manuscripts of Wmffre Dafydd ab Ifan and Gwilym Hiraethog and local records. In 1893 he was ordained as minister of Llandderfel and Llandrillo Congregational churches, in Merionethshire, where he stayed until he retired in 1929. He died on 6 February 1931, aged 79.
