He was the author of several works relating to Montgomeryshire and to the social life and customs of the Celtic countries. Abraham Howell (1810-1893) was the son of William and Elinor Howell of Bont Dolgadfan, Llanbrynmair. He started working as a solicitor in Welshpool in 1840, joining the firm of Jones & Parry; when the firm dissolved in 1848, Howell established his own practice along with his brother-in-law Edward Jones and W. Pryce Yearsley. Howell served Montgomeryshire as County Treasurer and Justice of the Peace and was four times mayor of Welshpool.
