Arthur Stanley Jehu Davies (1889-1951) of Welshpool and later of Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire, was for many years one of the secretaries of the Powysland Club. He was the author of several works relating to Montgomeryshire and to the social life and customs of the Celtic countries. Abraham Howell (1810-1893) was the son of William and Elinor Howell of Bont Dolgadfan, Llanbrynmair. He started working as a solicitor in Welshpool in 1840, joining the firm of Jones & Parry; when the firm dissolved in 1848, Howell established his own practice along with his brother-in-law Edward Jones and W. Pryce Yearsley. Howell served Montgomeryshire as County Treasurer and Justice of the Peace and was four times mayor of Welshpool.
