Thomas Gee (1815-1898) joined his father's printing and publishing business in Denbigh in 1838, continuing the business alone following his father's death in 1845. In the same year Thomas Gee began publishing the quarterly periodical Y Traethodydd and, from 1854 to 1878, he undertook the mammoth task of printing and publishing the ten-volume Y Gwyddoniadur. The weekly Baner Cymru first saw the light of day in 1857; the paper merged with Yr Amserau in 1859 and it was this publication of all Gee's output which proved most influential in the social, political and religious life of Wales. Gwasg Gee was continued by Thomas Gee's son John Howel Gee and the business remained in the family until 1914. Morris T. Williams (1900-1946) married the novelist Kate Roberts in 1928. The couple bought Gwasg Gee, continuing its production of periodicals such as the influential Baner ac Amserau Cymru.
