William Evans ('Alaw Afan', 1836-1900) was a musician who lived at Felincrug and Maenarthur Cottage, near Llanafan, Cardiganshire, in his early years. As well as composing music, he was also the leader of a Llanafan choir, and a competitor in eisteddfodau in Wales and the U.S.A. During the latter half of his life he lived at Treorchy, Glamorgan.
