The Rev. Rhys Bevan Jones (1869-1933), of Porth, Glamorgan, was a Baptist minister, conservative evangelical, author founder of the South Wales Bible Training Institute. He was born in Dowlais, Glamorgan, and attended Pontypool Baptist College, Monmouthshire, being ordained in 1893. He was pastor of Baptist churches in Treharris, Glamorgan, 1893-1895, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, 1895-1899, and Porth, Glamorgan, 1899-1933. He founded the South Wales Bible Training Institute at Porth in 1919, remaining its honorary principal until his death. He played a part in the early 20th century religious revival, with his friend the Rev. W. S. Jones ([1860]-1933), of Llwynypia, Rhondda, Glamorgan. He preached throughout North Wales and founded the Evangelical Group Faith Mission of Wales, [c. 1930]. He was the first editor of Yr Efengylydd and wrote religious works such as Spiritism in Bible Light (Cardiff, 1920) and Rent Heavens (London, 1931). He was married and had three sons and three daughters. He died on 10 April 1933. | |||||||||||||||
