His acting career spanned the 1930s and the 1970s; in addition to stage plays, he appeared in UK and US films, including The Proud Valley (1940), Love on the Dole (1941),The Foreman went to France (1942), Companions in Crime (1954), and The Curse of the Werewolf (1961), and in TV series and plays, including, as Inspector Stryker, Stryker of the Yard (1957). He was also a writer and producer. He directed the City of Cardiff's contribution to the Festival of Britain, in 1951. He died at Aberaeron, Cardiganshire, in 1985. He helped to establish the St David's Theatre Trust in 1959 with the help of Lord Aberdare, Sir Cennydd Traherne and Saunders Lewis; it was registered as a charity in 1962. Its aims were to establish a National Theatre for Wales in Cardiff and to promote new drama in Wales; it was dissolved in 2001.
