The Rev. Edward Iorwerth Jones ('Iorwerth Ddu', 1852-1931), Baptist minister, was born in Aberdare, Glamorgan. He attended the Llangollen Welsh Baptist College, Denbighshire, and was ordained in 1877. He served the pastorates of Staylittle and Dylife, Montgomeryshire, 1877-1879, Berthlwyd, Glamorgan, 1879-1892, Carmel, Troedyrhiw, Glamorgan, 1892-1894, and Bethania, Maesteg, Glamorgan, where he worked from 1894 to 1930, when he retired. He was the president of the Welsh Baptist Union, 1924-1925, and a member of Glamorgan County Council and Maesteg School Board. He was the author of Gweddi Fawr yr Iesu (Llangollen, 1904) and a commentary on Thessalonians (Llangollen, 1910). He was married, and had two sons and a daughter, including Dr Morris Jones. He died on 8 December 1931.
